A must on your to do list while in New Orleans. Cannot leave without the world famous King Cake. They will ship anywhere in the USA. You won’t be disappointed.
Stopped here with a bunch of friends to grab some treats on the way back to the city… I did buy a king cake as well because I heard this place had the best! They had different kinds but I opted for the original and it did not disappoint. Highly recommend if you are looking for something tasty!
King cakes of course! The best! Many varieties! Drove them to Alabama to many happy recipients! Best in louisiana!
Stopped in for a Cajun Kringle. The King Cake was fresh and delicious! Service was very good and fast!
The most delicious King Cake in NOLA! We were visiting New Orleans and took several king cakes back home to Mississippi. Haydel’s is simply the best.
We got two king cakes, one regular and one brownie. Both were very good. So would I go back to Haydel’s on my next visit to New Orleans? Absolutely.
You have not tasted a King’s cake until you have had one of theirs. Had read about this bakery for years, but finally got to visit it in person. So many to choose from. Employee recommended the praline stuffed. OMG!
Their king cake is exactly the way an original king cake is supposed to be! You’re not a true New Orleanian until you get a king cake from Haydel’s. And the ceramic figures are adorable.
Stopped by Haydel’s on the way out of town just so we could get a Cajun Kringle, which is a large ring of flaky, layered pastry with sugar and nuts. It was excellent. So good I’m tempted to order one online and have it shipped to me!
This is the first time I have used Haydel’s for King Cake. The king cake was delicious, fresh and delivered right on time. I wanted an authentic cake with the baby ‘baked’ inside the cake and Haydel’s delivered! I would order from them again!
We only stopped here to buy king cake based on locals’ recommendations. They were right. The pecan praline king cake is amazing. We bought several to take home as gifts for friends. This will be a regular stop for us.
Stopped by here by recommendation of a family member. The King cake is so moist and fresh. Also they ship if you order in advance. My new fav place for King Cakes…
I cannot tell you how gorgeous the things they have to offer at this bakery! It was out of this world. The Cajun Kringle was the most delicious thing we tried! As a matter of fact we had one shipped to the kids (Washington State) so they could try it too.
Haydel’s is a staple in my area. Their King cakes and Cajun Kringles are so addictive!!! Theirs are the King cakes that I send my friends out of state! And the Kringles are my Christmas gifts of choice.
Love this place THE BEST KING CAKES … we had 2of these beauties sent to us in New Jersey for my Birthday to share with our family and friends . Everyone went crazy these cakes are pure freshness you can smell the butter and all the goodness they put in to give you this Fabulous piece of New Orleans .. Trust me if you don’t know do yourself a favor and order this Staple next year during Mardi Gras season ..
Yum – think of a King Cake as a cross between cake & bread! It’s more on the latter part and the inside in includes swirls of cinnamon with a sweet icing. This particular one is better tasting than the ones my hubs brings from work because of the lemony flavor that really brought it home for me. It comes with beads & a small package of French chicory coffee.
Haydel’s is my King Cake go-to every year. They have great packages they send out with the cake, the history of Mardi Gras, some beads, and you can also order it with all kinds of stuff — their specialty beads, a CD, and other Mardi Gras supplies. They basically send your party directly to your door.
I visit Haydel’s during Mardi Gras, they have my favorite king cake! Always fresh with just the right amount of moistness, icing and sugar!
Last year we sampled Haydel’s King Cake at the King Cake Festival and loved the flavor, texture and sugary coating. So this Mardi Gras season we mail ordered a cake. Great service! It was packed and wrapped to survive the rigors of UPS, and we quickly opened the package like kids on Christmas. The cake was incredible! Just as we remembered, the taste was great – fresh and sugary treat.
It’s Mardi Gras season so I had to grab a King Cake from them. My sister who visiting wanted to try the Cajun Kringle which is a flaky, buttery pastry with special praline filling, topped with caramel icing and decorated with sweet southern pecans. They also throw in one pack of French Market Coffee and Chicory with an order of Cajun Kringle.
I came here because I had heard good things and was looking to bring some king cake to my family up in NY when I visited for Christmas. Unfortunately, I was unable to take a proper picture because as soon as we opened the plastic wrapping off of the cake when it got to NY we immediately devoured the cake (I kid you not-within 5 minutes there was about 1/4 of the cake left). It was really good! There are A LOT of sprinkles which I personally love because I like the crunch and the sweetness. The brioche was also super moist, a tad sweet, and had the perfect amount of cinnamon flavor (not too much but just enough). The frosting was sweet and they are somewhat liberal with the frosting but they didn’t overdo it.
Haydel’s makes the best king cake, period. I don’t usually like desserts but I’ve loved king cake since I was a kid. As many people know, king cake is seasonal and even when in season it can be hard to find depending on where you live. Luckily, Haydel’s quality is not only amazing but they ship king cake anywhere year round. I’ve had Haydel’s sent to my NYC apartment for Valentine’s Day, my home in Miami for Mardi Gras, and even had it as the groom cake in my wedding in Colorado. Haydel’s takes it above and beyond bringing New Orleans to you and I couldn’t imagine where I’d get my favorite guilty pleasure if they weren’t around.
Haydel’s Bakery is MY favorite place to get King Cakes. They make a great product, plus, there is the bonus porcelain king cake baby trinket. I have to get one every year! This is the place I recommend if you want to send a king cake to someone in another state. They have a great Mardi Gras package with beads, coffee, an Arthur Hardy Mardi Gras Guide…the whole Mardi Gras experience in a box!
I went there for a Cajun Kringle and ended up with the whole store!! The Cajun Kringle is a pastry with a praline filing. It also has caramel icing on top with pecans. It’s usually only available during Christmas time. It’s so tasty and yummy that you can’t just have one piece! I was happy to also buy a Christmas King Cake. I love the red and green sugar! Their king cakes are always fresh.
For me personally Haydel’s has the best king cakes. They are consistently amazing! My personal favorites are the traditional and the apple filled. I’ve tried king cakes from many different places around the city and they just do not measure up to the quality of the Haydel’s king cake.
This is THE king cake to buy if you want the authentic, legit, Mardi Gras king cake to conquer all king cakes. Each Haydel’s king cake comes with a plastic baby already planted inside, but as a bonus they also include a really cool collectible ceramic “baby”. It’s well worth the short trek over to Jefferson Parish to get a first-hand glimpse (and smell) of where true Carnival magic is made.
I ordered a King Cake online and it delivered on the exact date that I requested! The King Cake came to us so soft and moist. The flavor of the King Cake was amazing. I’m from Louisiana and I grew up eating King Cake, but now that I live in Texas I have to have the real deal shipped to me from New Orleans. I highly recommend the King Cakes at Haydel’s. Not only are they soft, thick, and moist, but they have a really good icing on top, along with their sugary sprinkles! My entire family approved!
YALL – this is what a king cake is. You get an awesome porcelain doll, delicious dough, sugar, filling on top, and friendly employees! What else could you have or want in a bakery?
Having never had a King Cake before I was surprised by the buttery croissant-like texture and shocked by the amount of nuance in a simple cake – notes of cinnamon and vanilla plus nutmeg clearly notable under the hefty dose of cinnamon sweet frosting. Filling the cake was a thick caramel pecan filling that tasted unmistakably like a creamy praline.
To put it frankly, Haydel’s makes the best King Cakes…EVER, anywhere, and in anyplace. Just the right amount of cinnamon, colored sugar and fondant icing, and they still stick a piece of peach-colored plastic in the shape of a baby (Jesus) somewhere underneath the ring shaped confection. One of the last bakeries that continues that tradition. I’ve been eating and sneaking larger than politely mannered pieces of cake that have been shipped to me from family friends, parents, and now coworkers since the age of three. They also include a bag of beads, coffee, and a porcelain Mardi Gras figurine. It’s a party in a box.
Haydel’s has the BEST king cake in NOLA! It actually won in a king cake tasting competition out of 12 local bakeries. It is the classic old new Orleans king cake that is done right!
I ordered a king cake from Haydel’s for my girlfriend. Great flavor, moist, delicious, just the right amount of cinnamon, perfect. They also packed in some chicory coffee so we could get the full experience.
“What is king cake?” I asked out loud when I received an email from a coworker announcing that a king cake had been sent to us from some company friends in New Orleans (honestly, working in San Francisco has SO MANY PERKS, one of them being consistently getting free desserts). Turns out that king cake is sugary crack baked into cake form and mailed to us by the gods from New Orleans. I only had a small slice, but it was so rich and sweet that I was glad I hadn’t gone on and gotten a bigger piece. The cake was gone within minutes of the email going out and announcing it.
OMG this cake is the bomb! Someone had one sent to work and I just had a slice and had to come on yelp and review it! I’ve never heard of a King cake until now and my god, this cake is delicious! It is sweet and sugary and definitely not for the weak. The taste reminds me of a danish so if you like danishes, you will like this. If I ever find myself in New Orleans, I will definitely be coming back for more!
No kidding, the best King Cake in New Orleans. There is always a line out the door, and for good reason. This is the best bakery ever! I know a lot of tourists check this site for king cakes…this is the place you need to order from.
If you’re looking for good King Cake, look no further. King Cake is a New Orleans tradition and no one does it better than Haydel’s.
Best king cakes – especially praline. Try the cajun kringle – also phenomenal, it’s praline pastry. i ate almost half of it just driving around doing christmas shopping one day.
Two words for the holiday season…CAJUN KRINGLE! Last year, I discovered the Cajun Kringle. Since then, I have given them to clients, brought them to friends and even shipped them for the holidays. The Cajun Kringle might be the great baked invention ever.
I’ve tried the king cakes from all over the city and Haydels is by far the best. Their cakes are consistent fresh and beautifully decorated and not overly sugared or sweet. The know the difference between cake and cinnamon roll. The only place to buy a real New Orleans king cake with a unique baby to boot.
If you’ve never had a Cajun Kringle try this seasonal dessert. It has a dough similar to a king cake but the inside is a cinnamon, pecan mix and the topping is some creamy caramel sauce. Yumm! I’ll be buying some for the holidays.
Hands down, Haydel’s has the best King Cake EVER! I was born and raised in New Orleans. My birthday falls just after Twelfth Night, and every year my mom would ask me what kind of birthday cake I wanted. Every year, I’d tell her a Haydel’s King Cake. I had to move away several years ago, but my friends ship me one every year for my birthday, and I order one for myself just before Mardi Gras. My friends here tell me it tastes like the best cinnamon roll they’ve ever had. But it’s always delicious. It’s always moist, and I adore the strawberry/cream cheese filling.
Haydel’s is the only place I buy my king cakes. I have had nothing but excellent king cakes from Haydel’s!!!
If you’re looking for a great king cake during Mardi Gras season then look no further than Haydels’s bakery. Haydels is now in its 4th generation of family bakers. Their king cakes are made fresh daily. I recommend the cream cheese king cake. My husband and I cannot keep a medium cream cheese king cake in our house for more than a day, they are just too delicious. I can promise you that once you taste a haydels king cake you realize that they are in a league of their own.
Haydel’s serves an outstanding version of the classic New Orleans king cake. Sweet and topped with lots of icing and colored sugar, it’s the brioche king cake that many New Orleanians grew up eating.
Now in its third generation, this family-owned bakery once operated out of a tiny 24-hour-a-day window. Today, Haydel’s is among the most popular choices for a classic king cake, with recipes deeply rooted in New Orleans tradition. The cake is made of Danish dough that’s hand-braided with cinnamon and sugar and topped with fondant icing along with purple, green, and gold sugar.
